America 250 Video Contest

Maryland Third Congressional District America 250 Video Contest 

In honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation and the great experiment of self-governance our Founders set out on, the Office of Congresswoman Elfreth is hosting an America 250 Video Contest. The contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage talented young storytellers in our Congressional District while reflecting on the significance of America 250 to our nation. Videos submitted to the contest will have a chance to be featured in a compilation on Congresswoman Elfreth’s social media, showcasing what America 250 means to young people in Maryland’s Third District.

The deadline for the America 250 Video Contest is Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 11:59 PM. See below for more details:  

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

All residents under the age of 18 in the Third Congressional District, represented by Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth, are encouraged to participate in the contest. You can verify your district residency here.

There will be two categories for the contest: youth and teen. All applicants under 12 years old will be eligible for the youth category, and all applicants ages 13 to 17 will be eligible for the teen category. A winner will be chosen from each category.

 

COMPETITION RULES 

Every video must respond to the following prompt: 

“250 years ago, our nation was founded on the radical idea of self-determination, meaning the people would have the right to freely choose their own system of government. How have you participated in our great democratic experiment, and how would you encourage your peers to do the same?”

 

Each applicant may only submit ONE video to the contest, adhering to the following criteria: 

  • Video must be filmed horizontally.
  • Video must be between 30 and 90 seconds.
  • Applicants must submit their videos using THEIR NAME, not a parent or guardian’s name. 
  • Applicants must submit original work. Any videos that rely on artificial intelligence (AI) or plagiarize another piece in any way will NOT be considered.
