Internships

Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) seeks interns to work in her freshman Washington, D.C. and Columbia, Maryland district offices this Fall 2025 (August-December). 

Working for a freshman office, we anticipate opportunities for interns to take on substantive tasks and develop a variety of skills and responsibilities. Applicants should be open-minded, motivated, and have a desire to work for a dynamic new Member.

We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis with a submission deadline of Monday, July 7th, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

Both our D.C. and district offices plan to hire general office interns. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Greeting guests and assisting with front office operations
  • Answering phones, recording constituent opinions, and correctly processing other inquiries
  • Organizing incoming mail
  • Leading constituent capitol tours (D.C.)
  • Legislative work: which may include attending hearing and briefings, writing memos, composing cosponsor recommendations, and drafting letters to be sent to constituents (D.C.)
  • Press work: which may include assisting with press clips, copy writing, and communications tasks (D.C.)
  • Constituent Services: which may include assisting with casework, correspondences with federal agencies, and attending community events (District)
  • Other tasks as assigned

Additionally, our D.C. office has a press internship program. Press intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Compiling daily news clips
  • Drafting social media posts and filming video content
  • Drafting press releases, newsletters and other written materials
  • Maintaining press lists
  • Other tasks as assigned

Our fall program will be in one session running from August 25th to December 19th. At this time, our internships are not open to high school applicants. College students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run from Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Full time availability is not required, but preferred. Our office compensates all interns. Interested applicants should complete the following application.
