Internships

Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) seeks interns to work in her freshman Washington, D.C. and Columbia, Maryland district offices this Spring 2026 (January-May).

Working for a freshman office, we anticipate opportunities for interns to take on substantive tasks and develop a variety of skills and responsibilities. Applicants should be open-minded, motivated, and have a desire to work for a dynamic new Member.

We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis with a submission deadline of November 10th at 11:59 PM.

Both our D.C. and district offices plan to hire general office interns. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting guests and assisting with front office operations
  • Answering phones, recording constituent opinions, and correctly processing other inquiries
  • Organizing incoming mail
  • Leading constituent capitol tours (D.C.)
  • Legislative work: which may include attending hearing and briefings, writing memos, composing cosponsor recommendations, and drafting letters to be sent to constituents (D.C.)
  • Press work: which may include assisting with press clips, copy writing, and communications tasks (D.C.)
  • Constituent Services: which may include assisting with casework, correspondences with federal agencies, and attending community events (District)
  • Other tasks as assigned

Additionally, our D.C. office has a press internship program. Press intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Compiling daily news clips
  • Drafting social media posts and filming video content
  • Drafting press releases, newsletters and other written materials
  • Maintaining press lists
