Elfreth Statement on House Republicans Full-Year Continuing Resolution

March 11, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) voted against House Republicans’ full-year continuing resolution and released the following statement.

“The unprecedented full-year continuing resolution ignores and exacerbates the affordability crisis too many Americans are experiencing. The bill slashes rental assistance by more than $700 million potentially putting 35,000 people at risk of eviction, neglects to fully fund emergency food programs for seniors by $20 million, putting as many as 25,000 people at risk of food insecurity, and does nothing to fulfill our commitment to veterans who have been exposed to burnpits and Agent Orange. Americans want to see a government that works for them. They want a government that protects the middle class and makes life easier for hardworking families. That is not what House Republicans have proposed today.”

“Today’s legislation does nothing to protect our hardworking and patriotic civil servants. It does nothing to reinstate the thousands of federal employees let go without cause across Maryland and our nation. And it does nothing to ensure the President will respect Congress’s power of the purse.”

“Further, never in the history of the Department of Defense have we seen a full-year continuing resolution. Doing so puts our national security at risk and hamstrings the Department of Defense from ending obsolete programs, responding to our ever-changing national security needs, and improving the quality of life for servicemembers. This is all while President Trump and Elon Musk are wreaking havoc and recklessly expanding the power of the Executive Branch by usurping Congress’s authority. I could not vote for a full-year continuing resolution that places no checks or balances on their actions and violates our standing as a co-equal branch of government.”
