Elfreth Hosts First Veterans Advisory Council Roundtable

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Yesterday, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, hosted the inaugural convening of the office’s Veterans Advisory Council in Ellicott City. Congresswoman Elfreth was joined by veterans, active-duty military, and military spouses for a discussion, which included an appropriations update, a legislative update, and input from servicemembers.
“I formed our office’s Veterans Advisory Council so I can hear directly from our veterans, active servicemembers, and their families — all of whom have sacrificed for our country, and whose stories and struggles deserve to be uplifted in the halls of Congress,” said Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth. “As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have the distinct privilege of representing the men and women who serve our country, which is why I am determined to fight for the best possible quality of life for our veterans and servicemembers.”
A Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congresswoman Elfreth has prioritized military readiness and capability, and advocated for servicemember safety. Elfreth’s Veterans Advisory Council will serve as an opportunity to discuss health care, financial assistance, and other priorities for improvement within the military community. The goal of the Council is to bring forward concerns from the military community and create meaningful solutions for Maryland’s Third Congressional District.
Elfreth is the only member of Congress from Maryland on a committee or subcommittee focused explicitly on national security issues. During her time in the Maryland General Assembly, Elfreth worked on issues central to the well-being of veterans, including mental health advocacy and suicide prevention, voting rights, and access to education. She has been recognized by the Maryland Military Coalition as “Legislator of the Year” in the Maryland Senate and continues to prioritize issues that affect our Veterans and servicemembers in Congress.”
