Elfreth Appointed to Readiness and Seapower Subcommittees

January 17, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) was appointed to the Readiness Subcommittee and the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee.

“Today’s subcommittee assignments reflect my priorities on the House Armed Services Committee. On the Readiness Subcommittee, I plan to work with my colleagues to ensure that our military remains the strongest, most skillful, and sharpest military on earth. I plan to utilize my environmental expertise to ensure the sustainability of our military’s equipment, weapons systems, and infrastructure,” said Congresswoman Elfreth. “It’s an honor to represent the U.S. Naval Academy, located in Maryland’s Third District, on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. I’m humbled to be in a position to advocate for our brilliant and brave Midshipmen and Sailors. On the full committee, I will continue to fight for all of our active duty military and their families to ensure the best quality of life possible.”

The Readiness Subcommittee oversees one-third of the Department of Defense's budget—the largest of any subcommittee on the Armed Services Committee. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over efforts related to military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance, as well as efforts to improve energy resiliency, including climate change adaptation, and environmental health issues.

The Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces covers a wide range of programs and policies including shipbuilding, airlift, deep strike bombers, seaborne unmanned systems, and national security aspects of our domestic maritime programs.
