Elfreth Statement on Firing of U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the representative of the U.S. Naval Academy in the House of Representatives, released the following statement on the firing of three-star U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield.
“U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, a distinguished three-star officer and the first woman to lead the Naval War College, was dismissed from her position on the NATO Military Committee with no explanation.”
“Her removal by the Trump Administration marks the latest in a series of high-profile firings at the Pentagon, following last week’s dismissal of General Timothy Haugh and Admiral Lisa Franchetti. Military leaders serve the nation as a whole, not any particular political party.”
“Continuity of leadership and expertise is critical to defending this nation against our adversaries. This level of unstable volatility leaves us unnecessarily vulnerable.”
