Elfreth Statement on Ceasefire Agreement

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) issued the following statement on the announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

“After 15 months of profound suffering and conflict, I am encouraged by today’s announcement of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, which will halt the fighting in Gaza, reunite 33 hostages with their families, and deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.”

“I applaud the work of President Biden and Secretary Blinken for their careful and tireless diplomacy that has led to this watershed moment. However, this is only a first step. It is now my sincere hope that this agreement marks the beginning of a permanent end to the war, the return of every hostage, and gives the people of Gaza a future free from Hamas’ terror. All parties must be held to this agreement to ensure an enduring and lasting peace.”
