Elfreth Opposes Republican Budget Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) released the following statement on her vote against House Republicans’ budget resolution.
“In Maryland’s Third District alone, 133,467 people rely on Medicaid for their health care including nearly 60,000 children and 9,000 seniors. In addition, 66,000 people in the District rely on SNAP to put food on the table for their families. Across our country, one in three Americans rely on Medicaid for their health coverage, and Medicaid accounts for over 60% of spending on long-term care. These are hard-working families who rely on long-standing and largely bipartisan government programs so their kids and grandparents can go to the doctor when they get sick.”
“House Republicans’ budget proposal puts these Marylander’s health care and food assistance in direct jeopardy. What’s worse, Republicans are gutting these programs while also increasing our deficit by $4.5 trillion to deliver tremendous tax cuts to a handful of billionaires. Families in our District want lower prices, affordable health care, and a government that works for them. Today’s budget resolution unfortunately provided none of those things.”
